Benzoic acid, or NaC7H5O2, is considered to be primarily an anti fungal, but also shows some activity against bacteria. It is the sodium salt of benzoic acid and exists in the form of white powder granular solid and is water soluble. Often combined with Potassium Sorbate in low pH products, it provides a synergistic preservative effect
