I've been working in thicker and thicker layers and spending more time each day on each painting

The thick paint layers are applied with knives and scrapers to create the troweled texture of the background and stiff bristle brushes to create the textured surface of the figure

I sketch the composition out using crayon and then paint successive layers over them using "non-local colors

This is one of a group of paintings that were worked on over the course of a week or two in a more layered approach
